NDLEA arrests woman pregnantwith drugs- NDLEA

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a mother of three who faked pregnancy with 86 pellets of white powdery substances that tested positive to cocaine.
Dorothy Onyekasi, 41,‎ was intercepted at the Lagos airport during the inward screening of passengers on an Emirates flight from Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The cocaine has a total weight of 1.720 kilogrammes with an estimated street value of N20.6 million Naira, the NDLEA said in a statement on Saturday.
Ahmadu Garba, NDLEA commander at the Lagos airport, said the wraps of cocaine would have been easily mistaken for pregnancy.
“It was discovered that the suspect kept 86 wraps of cocaine inside a waist bag which was tied to her stomach,” said Mr. Garba.
“Unfortunately, the drug was detected by NDLEA officers on her arrival from Dubai. The drug was immediately packed and weighed in her presence.”

The suspect, who said she’s an importer of female bags and shoes,‎ said her involvement in drug trafficking was a mistake.

“I am separated from my husband who left me with three children. I used to import female bags and shoes from Dubai. My involvement in drug trafficking is a mistake and I take responsibility for my action.
“I travelled to Dubai to buy my goods. While I was preparing to return, I met a man in Dubai who gave me the drug and promised to give me enough money to expand my business. He also told me that when I get to Nigeria, he will call his partner to collect the drug and give me my money.”
The suspect said on arrival in Nigeria, officials of the NDLEA detected the drugs at the airport.
“It is all my fault.,” Ms. Onyekasi, who hails from Enugu State, said.
“If only I was contented with the profit from the sales of my goods; I would not have been in this problem.”
Muhammed Abdallah‎, NDLEA’s Chairman described recent drug seizures at the Lagos airport as a welcome development that is capable of forcing drug cartels to a retreat.
“In the past few days, the NDLEA has recorded numerous arrests and drug seizures at the Lagos airport,” said Mr. Abdallah, a retired colonel.
“The drug cartels have also suffered huge losses from these operations. This particular suspect feigned pregnancy with wraps of cocaine but she was caught by vigilant narcotic agents.
“Some of the suspects recently apprehended concealed drugs in their socks and luggage while others ingested wraps of cocaine in disregard of the danger to their health. In spite of their craftiness, we are daily stopping them from perpetrating their criminal act and forcing them to a retreat.”

A vote for the ANC is a vote for the Constitution - Zuma.

Watch as crowds at the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium in Port Elizabeth cheer as the ANC's "top six" arrive for the party's manifesto launch.
Port Elizabeth - A vote for the ANC is a vote for the Constitution, ANC President Jacob Zuma told a lethargic crowd, some of whom left during his speech, at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.
Zuma's address at the ANC's manifesto launch was peppered with references to the Constitution.
This comes a few weeks after the Constitutional Court found he had acted inconsistent with the Constitution when he failed to comply with Public Protector Thuli Madonsela's report on non-security upgrades to his Nkandla home.
"The ANC is guided by the Constitution of the Republic in all the work it does to improve the quality of life of the people," Zuma said.
"A vote for the ANC is a vote for a united, non-racial, democratic, non-sexist and prosperous South Africa. It is a vote for the Constitution of the Republic."
The ANC and Zuma have found themselves in a difficult position following the highest court in the land's judgment, and calls for the president to resign have increased.
It was not yet clear what effect this would have on the party's support during this year's local government elections, however ANC officials were adamant that their supporters had accepted Zuma's apology - as did the party.
ANC spokesperson Zizi Kodwa said earlier on Saturday that the party was expecting more than a 100 000 people to attend its manifesto launch. This was after officials spent the week visiting areas in and around Nelson Mandela Bay mobilising people to attend.
However, the 46 000-seater stadium on Saturday was only two-thirds full.
While tens of thousands did attended the event, the ANC was not able to pull the numbers it used to, which could be said to be a low point for the party, especially at what was the official launch of its election campaign.

42 000 people in stadium
ANC chairperson Baleka Mbete told the crowd that the official record of people who had entered the stadium on Saturday was 42 000, but many had moved from their seats because of the scorching heat.
She also said buses were still arriving and taxis had been sent to the townships to pick up people.
However, thousands of ANC supporters turned down the offer of seats at the stadium, opting rather to sit outside and socialise with other ANC supporters from different provinces.
The country's metros will be highly contested in this year's election, with opposition parties vowing to unseat the ANC in cities such as Nelson Mandela Bay, Johannesburg and Tshwane.
Zuma on Saturday reported back on progress the ANC had made since the last local government elections held in 2011, and outlined plans for the next five years.
After arriving at the event, Zuma and his fellow top six ANC officials walked a lap around the stadium, where they received a rousing welcome as supporters clapped and cheered.
A group also chanted "Zuma, Zuma, Zuma".

Arch évêque demander Buhari pour libérer Nnamdi et tendre non des excuses sans réserve à lui- Arch Bishop ask Buhari to release Nnamdi Kanu and tender apology to him.

Archbishop of Abuja, Cardinal John Onaiyekan has criticized President Muhammadu Buhari over disregarding court orders, demanding the release of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu. He said: “There is no sign that Nigeria has the president.

The problem President Buhari has is that many Nigerians want to continue as they were doing before and they want everybody else to change, but not themselves.”

“Democracy is all about the rule of law. Three times he has disobeyed court orders in less than a year in office. “Disobedience to court orders by those who should protect and ensure its compliance slides the Nation to anarchy. “It is wrong to undermine the Constitution of Nigeria which is the bases of the Nigerian nation and expects people not to resist such via protesting.

For those supporting president can you please justify why he has refused to obey court orders? The prominent cleric added: “My dear President Buhari, it will be in the best interest of the nation that you obey court orders and apologize to the nation for the embarrassments you have caused us which have led to peaceful demonstrations in virtually major parts of Southern Nigeria.

“You should in the best interest of the nation set up a truth and reconciliation committee and compensate families of those killed. You should have obeyed as ordered by the court; ask your DSS to obey court orders, release Nnamdi Kanu and tender an unreserved apology to him for the embarrassments you have caused him, his wife, family, and millions of his followers by detaining him and infringing on his rights without good reason.”

Kanu was arrested in Lagos in October on conspiracy and terrorism charges, which were later dropped. A day after the Abuja High Court ordered his release, officials pressed new treasonable felony charges against him, while President Buhari said Kanu would not be granted bail due to the “atrocities” allegedly committed

Cape Town - Politicians were out in full force all over the country as the second round of voter registration for municipal and local elections got underway on Saturday with hitches in some places.
The Electoral Commission hoped that the second round would boost the existing voters’ roll of 25.6 million and register the estimated eight million eligible voters who are not registered yet.
It especially wants young people to register because 80% percent of the eligible voters not registered yet are under the age of 30.
The leadership of the ANC was out in their signature gold and green colours where they went on door-to-door campaigns, handing out party t-shirts to potential voters for the 13 August poll.
